Background

Gwayne is the son of Faliu-adh and the Priestess of the Earth Mother Ail-Fal-Day. His mother wanted him to grow up as a priest himself so she did teach him all the important skills he would need in his further life. So she did teach him about the powers of nature and the elements of faerie. This was enhanced by the fact that there home was regulary visited by faerie creatures. As they are all creatures of the Goddess. So his young life was filled with strange playfriends. When he was eight he went with his parents on a quest for knowledge brought them from Kislovan to Dort. unfortunately in the highlands of Islay a terrible accident happened when they got attacked by a some local tugs in search of wealth. The little boy tried to get away but dropped over the edge of a rock and straight into a loch, hitting his head severely in this process.

A old man named Ferlong of Clan o`toole was hunting in the neighborhood of the loch when he saw a young child floating by. Thinking that the child was dead he took him from the water to give him a proper burial. Just to find out that there was still some life in him. So he brought him home. The young boy was deadly sick for weeks, his head was hid badly and a fever was burning the body up. Forlongs wife Siawann was a Priestess and to cure the boy she gave him herbal potions. After a while she decided to paint symbols of protection on his body to make sure that he was protected against the evil spirits that tried to claim him. In the mean time Forlong was searching for the parents of the boy and he found the broken bodies of two Sidhe along the loch. He buried the bodies where he found them. And returned to his wife with the news. It took the boy months to recover from his injuries. His memory badly damaged by the incident he had not mutch recollection of his parents. Although Forlong and Siawann wanted to bring the boy back to his own people it took so long for him to recover that they became very attached to him. When they discovered that his memory was damaged they offered him a place to stay. They had no children of their own and so they did see him as a gift of the Goddess. Because the fever returned around every anniversary his injury, scared that evil spirits still could harm the boy, Siawann decided to make the painted symbols permanent to make sure the protection would always be there. She asked another priestess to tattoo them on his body. After that the fevers seemed disappear and the boy did grow up healthy and strong for a Adhiel.

The fact that he could never be a human was a problem. The O'Toole tribesman decided that the boy had to go. Even though Siawenn was a respected Priestess, they where scared that the boy would be bad luck. After a while Forlong decided that it was all fuss about nothing, took his belongings and moved his house out of the community. From that moment on they knew that would never be a part of normal communitie again, it did bring bitterness in Siawann's life. They educated the boy in the ways of survival in the woods. They where making a living from creating and selling wooden items to other tribesman who lived there sometimes healing there wounds. Siawann took revenge on the community by teaching the boy the skill of being a mercy killer. Bringing the blessing of the Goddess (death) to them who asked for it. Under the excuse that the boy had a steady hand and was swift. To compensate it a bit, she also did teach him to heal. Both skills became handy in the disastrous hunger winter.

It made Gwayne a person everybody preverable evaded. So he stayed in the woods where he searched and found faeries. When he became of age he became restless and needed to see more of the world. He wanted to know from where his blood parents came. After a few years this urge became unbearable and he started to prepare to leave. So his parents did give him equipment and money to survive. At the day he left his father gave him a medallion that he did find on the bodies and his mother convinced him to keep the ritual knife. Armed with knife and wits Gwayne went into a world yet unknown to him.
