Common Name

Adhiel

Other Names

Fae, Sidhe, Elf

Typical Appearance

Adhiel are small and light compared to most other races, with an average height of five feet and a correspondingly small frame. Adhiel features tend to the more angular, with narrow jawlines ending in pointed ears that frame their almond-shaped eyes. Ranging from the pale white of the western settlements to a golden bronze of more rural development, Adhiel coloring is usually light and fair with hair colors that seldom range darker than a natural auburn. Their eyes range in all natural shades, though blues and greens are far more rare among them than with humanity. Adhiel are far less hirsute than all other races and have no facial hair of any kind regardless of location. The Adhiel of Gulanadur are an exception to these standards, as they always have a dark, black complexion and white, colorless hair.

Common Religion

Any, though predominantly the Mother or Pan.

Lands

Aveas, T'aquar, Kislovan, Gulanadur; small migrant populations can be found in most locations

Advantages

Adhiel enjoy a much greater eyesight and hearing compared to most other races. In addition to this, they are inherently nimble and swift in reflexes.

Disadvantages

Adhiel are generally weaker and more fragile than other races, both in bone structure and in endurance. This is coupled with a reduced tolerance for toxins.

Outlook on Life

Patient to a fault and inherently paternalistic towards other cultures as well as their own kin, the Adhiel race is instinctively tied to nature and the natural world. They disdain machines and industry in favor of a scholarly coexistence and harmony with the world in which they live, seeking to nurture the world around them and use it without needless abuse. They are resilient to change or innovation, preferring to maintain long-standing traditions and ancestral ideals, yet they are a race of natural artists, drawn to beauty and perfection like none other.

There is no distinction between male and female Adhiel. All are eligible for any role or profession. This adds to the Adhiel sense of disconnection when they travel elsewhere- such as in Kings Court, where most women- at least of the upper classes- traditionally take on a less active role.

The Adhiel of T'aquar have a well established oral tradition as they tend to stay away from books, as they are formed from ‘dead’ trees.

Since Adhiel do not bear children as easily as humans, often dying in childbirth, all children would be nurtured and taught to achieve their full potential - an only child in any household will get more one on one attention than one growing up in a household of five or six, simply by virtue of time available. This includes achadhiel, who are looked upon as ‘more than a human’ rather than only ‘half an elf’

They enjoy being in nature more than being in cities as a rule. This is not to say that some don't choose to pursue their lives elsewhere- but MOST prefer to spend a great deal of time outdoors and will almost always compare an ‘ordinary’ city with Kes’Levy in the Trees.

Background

Believed to be one of the original races created by the Gods, the Adhiel have settled many regions all over the world of Tazlure. Lands governed by Adhiel tend to flourish in health, as this race has long since learned to coexist well with their surroundings. Part of their longevity has given the Adhiel a much clearer vision of the world around them and the impact they have upon it. As such, they are resistant and hesitant to violate the natural harmony of the world with permanent construction or manipulation, and their most valued pursuits lie with artwork and things of beauty instead of industry and construction.

The ancient lands of T'aquar display this tendency prominently, along with the more recent settlement of Aveas. The lands of Kislovan see a much more 'humanised' Adhiel, as they've adapted to coexist with that more turbulent and changing race, and the Adhiel of Gulanadur live well under ground and exist only as myth for many people, a race rumored to be marked after a great betrayal to the light generations ago.

Maturing at the same rate as humanity, Adhiel live a long, long time as young adults, capable of mastering many skills and areas of knowledge before their eventual decline into old age. Reproduction comes scarce to them, limiting their numbers and building upon the sacred protectiveness of life that has come to be part of their nature.
