Names Appropriate to Dort
A number of European cultures have influenced the development of Dort and as such, the naming of its NPCs and PCs can be highly variable.
In general, characters originating from Islay and Hafne have a strong Scottish and Irish flavour while those from the Midlands and the Northlands are more English. However, many of those in the nobility and the upper classes have names derived from Germany and the Netherlands.
It is worth noting that while many Clansmen and women use the name of their Clan as their surname, this is not a universal practice. Some retain names from old Clan families that have long been absorbed into the modern tribal units. Others have "standard" surnames derived from a place, occupation or distinguishing feature. A few even choose to go without surnames altogether.
