An NPC which belongs to (for example) the 'Pax NPC' category... should he also be a member of the category 'NPC' or not? It seems to go both ways in here. Shall we establish a set way to proceed from here? My current example is Toby Klein McNamara. He is a 'Killem'toh NPC' as well as an 'NPC'. This is a little redundant, yes? We've had this discussion in the mod forums in the past but failed to reach a consensus. I agree with you, but others think that it would be nice to have a master list of all NPCs, hence the current lack of consistency. --Morg 09:00, 5 September 2008 (CEST)
Actually, I'm one of the persons who likes the masterlist, for managementreasons. It gives me a total overview. Also goes for some other categories. I will note the inconsistancy in Project Wiki. Admin 17:36, 5 September 2008 (CEST)
I can see the merit in going either direction. Plus the list of every single NPC is a very awe-inspiring thing. It is fast to pull up that list and do a ctrl-f to find the PC you are looking for if you know part of their name I suppose. Either way, the Dragon has spoken. ;) AbboTT 00:06, 6 September 2008 (CEST)

Official Method of Organization

I propose that we hammer this out and come to a consensus. This is my preference:

  • Every area has a "Category:Area NPC" cat assigned to it.
    • That category is a sub category of the larger Category:NPC
    • That category is also a sub category of it's own local master category "Category:Area"
  • Every NPC is listed in both the master list "NPC" as well as their local "area NPC" cats.
  • The NPC is not listed in their root location "Category:Area"

For example. Jack Parsons, a Murrelbuck NPC... would belong to "Category:Murrelbuck NPC" and "Category:NPC." "Category:Murrelbuck NPC" is also a sub-cat of "Category:Murrelbuck" This way, everything is a little cleaner.

I also propose that NPCs are not flagged as "biographies" but that "Category:NPC" becomes a sub-category of "Category:biography"

Let me know if additional explanation is needed. For a working example of how I think things should be (with the exception of the biography bit) see Toby Klein McNamara. I was just going to start making the changes... then I realized just how many NPCs are on the wiki and how much work this could very well be. AbboTT 12:42, 11 September 2008 (CEST)

What you suggest above sounds reasonable to me. As for actually making the changes, I'm working on getting a bot up and running, which would speed up the process - but it might be a while, as I'm no expert in that sort of thing. In the meantime a consensus on how to proceed in new articles would be useful. --Morg 00:08, 12 September 2008 (CEST)
